Hi, I'm Anna! I am a lifelong lover of all things animal but I'm particularly passionate about "man's best friend". Having always had dogs and other pets since childhood, the first thing my husband and I did after marrying 29 years ago, was get a new puppy! And dogs have been a big part of our family ever since! As much as we'd like to take credit for our 4 children learning to love and respect animals, truth be told, the dogs taught them more than we ever could.
Through it all, despite my knowledge and education as a veterinary assistant, a groomer and a breeder, one thing was always painfully clear...No matter how long we had our beloved pets, we never had them long enough. That fact and my desire to give them the very best, drove me to further grow my knowledge and ultimately led me to their diet.
As a certified Advanced Canine Nutrition Specialist, I know with absolute certainty that good nutrition is the foundation upon which all else is built. I can't wait to share with you the #1 thing that can help you give your own best friends the longest, healthiest lives possible!
Below is a brief outline of what you will receive at each level. It is very difficult to put in words a completely comprehensive description of the consultation and the details that will be covered as each dog and each dog/owner relationship is unique. The attention of the consultation/coaching will be concentrated on those individual requirements to provide the best possible service.
Let's see if we're a good fit and if I can help you, help your best friend!
How much do you really know about what is in your dog's food?
I am ready to go all in!

Go here for trusted suppliers for food, ingredients and supplements. I've waded through the junk and found the good stuff for you!
I do that too! It's one of the many reasons I pursued my Canine Nutritionist certification. I've seen first hand the difference dietary changes could make in a dog's skin and coat health. I love making dogs healthy and making them look pretty too! Call Mary for an appointment and I'll see you there!
Small, local business putting dog health first! Great options for your pup's treats. Carefully sourced and simple ingredients. Everything I look for in a treat!
I am the proud owner of Miniature Australian Shepherds! A phenominal breed, if I do say so myself. While I do breed on rare occasion, my good friend, Mary Kirkpatrick is a long-time and very highly regarded breeder of these wonderful dogs. Take a peek!

"You don't get better guidance when it comes to pet nutrition than Anna. After our buddy Bluey, our mini Aussie was suffering from some gut issues, Anna did everything in her power to help me make our boy healthy again. She took so much time with us and did a lot of research to help us. He is now on the up and up, and I am so thankful for her help. She loves your fur babies as much as you do, and it shines through everything she does! Thanks Anna!" - Brandy Colhouer
"I, well my pups, love 'Hoshi's Healthy Bites'. They came very nicely packed with a beautiful informative brochure and additional information in the box. The treats arrived in perfect condition, they weren't damaged at all & were all intact. I love the seal fresh bag. The price is more than reasonable for the quality and ample amount. My pups (Ringo & Rhia) get so excited for their Hoshi treats & always think they should have more. Sooo thankful for your treats Anna, your constant encouragement, and your advice! Thank you so much!" - Kathy Ashdown

I have waited for almost 2 years to get to this part of my site. Mostly because my story is the antithesis of exciting. I know, I know, folks want to know more about who they are talking to. That is why I am here now. However, I grew up being taught that talking about yourself was boastful. (Gen X, am I right?) It’s still one of the things I'm not great at.
Like I said in my "Why", I have always been an animal lover. In fact, since the time I realized I was going to be too big to be a jockey (I was like 8 and I love tacos so….), I looked forward to becoming a veterinarian. That all changed my senior year of high school when we were tasked with interviewing a few folks from our chosen profession. Without exception, they all regretted their line of work and were unanimous in their reason. Human beings can be shockingly awful to their “pets”. (In actuality, they used some very colorful language, but you get the idea.)
Knowing myself well enough to realize that would not end well, and not really knowing what else to do, I decided to follow my second passion, Oceanography. Too late to apply to colleges, I joined the Coast Guard with the intention of going to the U.S.C.G. Academy. Long story short, I never made it to the Academy but I did meet my Husband and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Fast forward-As a Navy wife, I was always looking for short term employment while at temporary duty stations. So for one summer, I worked in the Zoo Department at Busch Gardens-Williamsburg, VA. Translation: I got to work with the freakin’ Budweiser Clydesdales! To say I loved it, would be an understatement! Then, at our next duty station in Charleston, S.C. I got a job working for one of the carriage tour companies taking care of their horses while becoming a veterinary assistant. However, before I could get an animal-related job at our next duty station, motherhood came along.
Fast forward again- I spent many busy years caring for my family and homeschooling all four of my children through to high school graduation. Again, no regrets. (I’ve been to Camp Couldashouldawoulda and it blows, trust me.) So since my children were by then adults (I mean, technically) I had more time to pursue my
interests
passion.
That segues me to now. Part-time grooming and consulting with folks on their dog's nutrition and helping every dog I can.
I guess I should have seen that coming. Looking back, through most of my life, there was a dog to love and be loved by. What I do now is only a fraction of the love shown to me by dogs. Dogs make us better people and they deserve the best. I believe we owe them that.
Oh, and a fun fact, I have yet to meet one of those “awful” humans doing what I do. Love for dogs is a common thread. I'm certain that's why
John Wick
was so popular.
I love dogs and I love what I do!
